The UKRIO Deception: How Westminster Enabled Palantir Approvals on the Public's Behalf

The UK Research Integrity Office (UKRIO) — the UK's national advisory body for research integrity — has Dr Gareth Conway, Head of Science and Technology Ethics at the MoD's Dstl, sitting on its Board of Trustees. Its website is maintained by Henson IT Solutions, the same vendor that built Anonyvoter, a compromised voting platform procured without tender by Labour. A structural conflict of interest: the body meant to ensure research independence is overseen by defence personnel, while the government it should scrutinise awarded over £670 million in Palantir contracts without genuine independent oversight.

In 2020, the UK Labour Party procured a voting platform called Anonyvoter without tender, without audit, and without basic security controls. A source code analysis revealed 8 critical vulnerabilities and 6 structural deficiencies — a system designed to allow vote rigging with no logging, no oversight, and no way to verify outcomes.

Our Position

Closed source voting
is a single point of failure.

When a single vendor controls the infrastructure, the database, and the authentication, there is no separation of duties. When there is no audit trail, there is no accountability. When there is no accountability, there is no democracy.

Political parties using closed source voting software for candidate selection create a single point of failure. The systems that determine who holds power are not being protected.

MI5 has a mandate to protect democratic integrity. GCHQ monitors cyber threats to critical infrastructure. NCSC is the national cyber security centre. None of them acted when the UK Labour Party procured a voting platform with no audit trail, no encryption, and no separation of duties.
